PROF. KWAMENA KWANSAH-AIDOO
Position/Job Title
Professor Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo who holds a PhD from Queensland University of Technology, Australia, is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC). He is the immediate past Rector of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ). Prior to becoming Rector of GIJ in August 2018, he was a Professor of Marketing and Public Relations at the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. He began at Swinburne in 2007, as Head, School of Communication, Marketing and Tourism and later became Associate Dean International (ADI) from 2010 to 2013, combining both Head of School and deanship roles. Before Swinburne University, he worked in the early 2000s as a Senior Lecturer at Monash University in Gippsland, Australia where he established and headed their Public Relations degree program.
He is an accomplished researcher with broad research interests in Public Relations, Journalism, Media and Communication Studies and has published widely and variously in these areas. He has edited and published books on Media, Communication, Crisis and Cross-Cultural Communication. Also, he has published over 55 refereed journal articles, more than 20 book chapters and presented over 70 conference papers across the globe. He has served and continues to serve on the editorial boards of several international journals and has also served as an external examiner (Masters and PhD) for several local and overseas universities, including Australia and the USA.
Prof. Kwansah-Aidoo is a Member and former Chairman of Vice Chancellors Ghana (VCG), a Fellow and Council Member of the Institute of Public Relations (IPR) Ghana, Board Member of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) Board, Member of the Accreditation Committee of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, Member of the Quality Assurance Committee of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, Member of the Board of Directors of the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, Chairman of the Working Committee of the Media Capacity Enhancement Program and Board Member of the National Cadet Corps.
Prof. Kwansah-Aidoo has held visiting professorship positions in Ghana, Australia and the USA. He calls himself an African “worldcitizen” having spent three decades living, studying and working in a number of different countries on four continents. A self-proclaimed enthusiastic and proud Old Vandal, Prof. Kwansah-Aidoo is an alumnus of the University of Ghana, Legon. He is an old student of the Akosombo Experimental School, Akosombo International School, Suhum Sec. Tech., Cape Coast Workers College and Ghana National College.
